Yokohama rubber fender consist of a thick layer of vulcanized rubber with end flanges that can be inflated with air. The unique characteristic of pneumatic fenders is their low reaction force at low deflections. This characteristic of pneumatic fender makes it the most suitable fender for liquid cargo ships and defense ships with sensitive equipment, and it has become an ideal fender medium widely used on large oil tankers, LPG ships, offshore platforms, etc.

Pneumatic Rubber Fenders can be easily operated and installed with guy-rope or guy-chain because of its light weight. It can resist the shearing force and maintain energy absorption level under inclined compression up to 15 degrees. Meanwhile, provide the low and comparatively even hull pressure.

The fender body is constructed of an inner rubber layer, reinforced cord layers and an outer rubber layer. All of these layers are vulcanized together.

The outer skin rubber compound is designed and manufactured to be able to withstand both strenuous use including abrasion during adverse weather conditions whilst protecting the cord layers and inner rubber.

The synthetic cord layers are arranged and designed to evenly distribute loads and stresses, thus maintaining the fender's internal air pressure.

The internal rubber compound is designed to be completely airtight, using a compound equivalent to the inner tube of a car tire.
